Captain Franklin Chronicles 6 - Bosom Mate Evenson Log

Day 86,

The unthinkable happened... One minute we were sleeping in the raft the next all was fire and water as a tremendous lightening struck our little makeshift sail.

The raft was torn apart to smithereens and just like that we were in deep water shivering with cold and fright. I was holding onto the writing supplies tube for dear life while casting about wildly for my dear Captain...

At first I thought he was gone and my heart sunk to the bottom of the ocean thinking that I am all alone in this tumultuous world, shipwrecked in the middle of the wide ocean... I thought of Pionus First Class and her cold body floating out there in the frigid waters and that this will be me next...

I floated up and down on the huge waves and as luck would have it, as I crested the next wave I saw a dark shape not too far away and something about the hunched figure clutching to the debris seemed familiar... I swam with all my might and  soon found myself clutching to the Captain.

My eyes flowed with tears of joy... still we were more than shipwrecked now without our little raft... desolate in the middle of nowhere but alive and together.

We clutched to each other for the remainder of the night...

In the morning the sea transformed in front of our eyes... the waves smoothed and the wind died down... in the clear light of the rising sun we were suddenly able to see for miles....
